The Noosa triathlon was my final race for the 2014 tri season and afterwards I was able to enjoy some much needed time off to rest up. Late November I made the trip up to Falls Creek to start training in preparation for the 2015 season ahead. My break from training was great, they always are, but I was ready to get back into gear and was excited for the year ahead.
Not surprisingly the ski resort that is Falls Creek was not overly popular during the first month of summer, it was like we had a whole mountain to ourselves so it will be nice to see some other people around this month as the bulk of Australian distance runners take to the mountain as well.
I returned home for Christmas and to see in the new year. Training in Tas is great this time of year with many top athletes also home for this summer period. I managed to squeeze in a one mile invitational race at the Launceston Christmas Carnival. I won the event in 2013 against four Kenyan milers, I think I managed to take them by surprise over the final 100m so knew that the 2014 event was going to be a tough one, this year they would be ready. With just one month of base training under my belt and no speed work I was surprisingly pleased with my performance, finishing up in 4th behind the 3 Kenyans after a sprint finish over the last 150m.
Early January and back in Falls Creek again with a substantially larger squad than December. I am now looking forward to some hard work in training and the hard racing 2015 should bring. Not long now and my season will begin.
I would like to thank my sponsors for their support during 2014, Giant, Asics, Endura, Zipp, the National Talent Academy, Tasmanian Institute of Sport, Triathlon Aus and Speedo
I have set myself some tough goals for 2015 and beyond and hopefully, with their continued support, I will be ticking these off one by one.
